Take a breath, another, and then another. But it's not just breathing that's important. It's how you breathe.
Periodically, I am struck by the inability to breathe correctly. My chest feels tight, my legs go weak, and I get light headed. No it's not a medical concern. It's me tensing up and not letting my breathe flow freely. Flow through all of me.
I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years and I'm still learning and improving my practice every day. The past year or so, I've been practicing every morning. It's part of the new morning routine I put in place. The one that's allowed me to find some "me time" in my hectic day.
Yoga and many other practices, incorporate a breath practice into the daily routine. I find if I do a little Alternate Nostril Breathing or Bellows Breathing early in the morning, that I am refreshed and ready to take on the day. It also helps combat anxiety and restless thinking. It really works. I know from experience.
Let's focus a little closer on Alternate Nostril Breathing. This breathing technique is named Nadi Shodhan. help clear out blocked energy channels in the body, which in turn calms the mind.
nadi = subtle energy channel
shodhan = cleaning, purification
pranayama = breathing technique
I've created a little video to demonstrate how easy it is to do Alternate Nostril Breathing. Check it out and leave me a comment on how it went.
Could you commit to trying this every day for a week? Maybe you will decide it is something you would want to include in your daily routine. Give it a try. See if you notice anything different.
