In the spirit of All Hallows Eve, or Halloween if you prefer, I have my own personal story of a spirit (haunted) house to share with you.
I used to live in a lovely old neighborhood of homes build in the 1930's. Many of the families on the street had lived there most of their lives. I was particularly fond of my house as it was the first home that I had owned, but more importantly to me, this house had certain qualities about it that were hard to describe.
It wasn't anything beautiful. In fact, the paint was cracking and the foundation needed to be leveled. The windows were original and the curtains would move in the breeze ever so slightly when the windows were closed. It definitely needed tons of work. But there was something about this house that drew me to it the moment I stepped inside for the very first time. And, It has continued to mesmerize me even after selling it and moving on over 10 years ago.
There was a feeling, an ethereal light coming through the old windows, and a dreamy sense of nostalgia that enveloped me. I purchased this house and lived there quite happily for 12 years. All this time feeling that the house was protecting me, keeping me safe.
There was also the many unexplainable stories that occurred while I was living there. Many times our next door neighbors would ask us if we were renovating or doing work inside the house. We weren't and so when we asked for more details they elaborated.
They said they saw shadows of a man behind the curtains. They heard hammering and sawing as if woodwork was being done. When we asked when this occurred, it was always when we were away. We never saw any evidence of someone being inside.
Friends who spent the night in the house would tell me that they had dreamed of being in the house. That they had seen an apparition of a man wearing jeans and a plaid shirt and wearing a tool belt. They said that in the dream he just wandered around the house. They didn't feel scared by him.
It was after I heard these stories that I decided this was one of my home's "spirits". Who knows if this man ever really existed or why his presence came to be there.
I always felt that the house's energy was perfect benevolence, so it never concerned me. There are many other "spooky" happenings that occurred to me in this house, but those are stories for another time.
There has been a lasting effect of the Aganier Avenue house that has stayed with me all these years. I dream about it frequently and whenever I do, the ghosts of my lost loved ones, human and animal are there in the house with me. We are smiling and happy and I feel safe and loved in this house.
